Zhengzhou Shengda University was initially established on June 21, 1994, with the approval of the former Chinese State Education Commission, by Taiwan Guangxing Culture and Education Fund (with Dr. Wang Guangya as president) in collaboration with Zhengzhou University. With the approval of the Chinese Ministry of Education, the institution became independent from Zhengzhou University in April 2011 and is currently a full-time private institution of higher education with independent legal personality.

Shengda University covers an area of 330 acres with two campuses, with the main one in Xinzheng Education Zone, Zhengzhou and the other in Dengfeng County, Zhengzhou. The main campus possesses a building area of more than 500,000 square meters and welcomes nearly 25,000 students at present.

Shengda University consists of ten schools, i.e. Business, Finance & Trade, Managment, Accounting, Foreign Language, Information Management, Chinese Literature & Law, Fine Arts, Architectural Engineering, and Sports, and two divisions, i.e. English for Non-Majors and General Education. Shengda University offers 39 four-year programs and 12 three-year programs. In the university there are 200 laboratories, including computer labs, audio-visual rooms, multimedia rooms, international trade practice rooms and so on.

Shengda University, with the motto of “Industry, Thrift, Independence and Self-reliance” and the spirit of “Patriotism, Love of school, Serenity, Hard work, Politeness and Tidiness”, attaches great attention to ideological and political education while stressing hands-on capabilities and skills. The students here are taught to master not only modern science and technology, but also how to conduct themselves in society. The school emphasizes strict administration, warm-heartedness and patience in teaching so as to foster highly-qualified graduates who will play important roles in building modern society.

The university attaches great importance to international exchanges. It has established sister relationships and conducted regular educational and cultural exchanges with Mercer University and Georgia Southwest State University in the U.S.A and Kingxi University in South Korea.
