SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise), a non-profit organization, held a competition on May 20thin Shanghai in the effort to cultivate future philanthropic business leaders.
Shengda SIFE, founded in 2010, had won first place in Henan and became a finalist in the nationals. Hu Fang, the deputy of our College Youth League Committee along with two other teachers from the Marketing Department led the Shengda SIFE team. Fifty five universities took part including the People’s University of China and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Shengda was the youngest and only private college among the participants.
The Shengda SIFE’s team of six students performed well in the competition, using well-organized logic and expressions. Their topics were “The Promotion of the Cherry in Long Hu Town” and “The Development of College Students’ Ability in Practice”. The two strategies aimed to raise the incomes of Long Hu residents by organizing a cherry festival and offering more part-time jobs for college students.
The judges were deeply impressed by their performance. One judge commended them by saying, “The ‘Cherry Project’ is a good one and has great potentiality of sustainable development. It is environmentally-friendly and combines the markets with the spirits of an entrepreneur perfectly well.” Shengda SIFE garnered third place with Peking University and Zhejiang University taking first and second.
After the competition, Li Haibo, the captain of Shengda SIFE, thanked Wang Yuwen, our founder’s representative for his support. The team also thanked Cui Muyue, Shengda’s president, and Zhang Jie, Shengda’s vice-president, for their support in all respects.
The Shengda SIFE team believed that they still had a lot to learn and potential for further improvement. It is certain that with a little bit more patience and hard work they will do better in the future.
