Before the beginning of the very first English class, almost all the students had seated themselves already and were waiting for their new teacher to come. When the bell rings, the door opens and there comes a strong man with a face with the character of the Chinese
You may guess it is a new student. But what happens next really is surprising: He goes to the front. "Oh, he's brave enough," you may add. As you listen, he speaks English fluently, but your surprise rises to its top level after he claims that he is the new English for whom you are waiting!
The first time I saw him, shook hands with him, and talked with him I felt happy, excited and special because he is a Chinese who was born in America. To be precise, his mother has relatives in China, and his grandparents and other family members are in Burma which is very near to China, but his parents are in America. So he can speak Cantonese very well. However, it is the first time for him to come to China, and he knows nothing about China but martial arts and Chinese traditional food.
Victor is independent in life and adapts himself very quickly. He likes doing everything by himself in his own style, such as washing, cleaning, cooking and so on. As a mild and gentle man without male chauvinism, he is very kind and easy -going. Vic, as his students refer to him, is humble and doesn't like showing off, like most Chinese, but that doesn't mean he isn't confident - he believes in himself. Like other foreign teachers, he likes traveling, but many interesting and funny things may take place during his journey because he wears a Chinese face but speaks English not Mandarin.
A sunshine smile and a pair of gleaming, penetrating eyes can prove everything. He is full of patience and love. Because when we talked about his part-time job during his college study, he had taken care of young children and he thought it was very interesting! And after he graduated from school, he worked in the White House to practice what he had learnt in school as an intern. He said it was cool to be so close to the President.
Shengda is the first school he has been to in China. He likes it very much because of its beauty and size. However, it is a pity that he plans to stay here for only one year. Like life, Victor's time here at Shengda may be short, but its value is measured by the impression he leaves and the people he affects.
Everyone has his own dream; I believe Victor can adjust to this new place in no time. I hope he enjoys being here.
